I live in Pumpkintown and I first asked the same question and this is the story I got. Years and years ago the two farmers who lived in joining property's planted gardens and as the Pumpkin patch grew and ran along the ground a very very large Pumpkin grew across the fence. The farmer who grew the pimpkin could see It was his largest yet, The farmer who owned the land it grew on picked and kept it and the fude begain almost like the Hatfields and Mc Coy's. Never the less Pumpkintown is a great community to live in. 11 miles out of Lafayette and just 4 miles or so from the Kentucky state line into Monroe county it is a beautiful farm land area to take a Sunday ride.
